West Virginia became a State during the Civil War. The only state in the Union that became a state out of another state (Virginia). The picture at left is a reenactment of that signing in 1863. After the state of Virginia withdrew from the union in 1861. The people in the western part of Virginia selected the reorganized government and asked to represent the state of Virginal. After their reinstatement they asked for the Western part of the state be separate.

Portraying the part of President Abraham Lincoln was Ralph E. Borror. Who has now been doing that for over 18 years. The study of this president started in 1979 and the first appearance was in 1988 for former president Ronald Reagan in Bowling Green Ohio for a campaign stop. Ralph will be at Lawnfield the Garfield home for his regular appearance. It seems to be almost ten years since the first time he visited the Garfield home.
