Lincoln Presenters Convention in Spencer County 2003

Lincoln Landing
It was here that Young Abraham operated a ferry half way across this river.
River boats would take on passengers. Two brothers owned the rights to ferry
people across
the river and motioned to Lincoln to come to their side of the river. When he
arrived, they were intent
on making Lincoln pay for infringement of their right. Young Lincoln suggested
they visit the judge to settle
the problem. The judge who's home is below. Listened to both sides. The brothers
argued that they have were
the only ones who had the right to the river traffic. Lincoln argued that he
didn't infringe on their right because he only took people to the middle of the
river, and therefore, he had done nothing wrong. The judge ruled that Lincoln
was correct.
