This picture was taken in the Washington studio just after his return from Bull Run.

WHEN THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES STARTED.  MATHEW B BRADY ASKED IF HE COULD RECORD THE CIVIL WAR WITH HIS CAMERA. HE WOULD EMPLOY 25 PHOTOGRAPHERS BEFORE IT WAS OVER. HE BECAME THE OFFICIAL CAMERA MAN FOR THE UNION ARMY.
