CIVIL WAR WEEK an INTEGRATED CURRICULUM

Each class during the week has a different
presenter for each class period.  The
presenter presents a program during
the Social Studies class. The week is
completed with a visit by the
16th President of the United States
Abraham Lincoln

Each day a different presenter presents a
program on the life of a person who lived
in the civil war period. A civil war soldier
or a person that lived during the
hardships of the times. Students ask
Questions of the presenters to better
understand this time in history.

All classes during the week are a part of this integrated curriculum. The students dress  in period cloths. This seemed to make a much more meaningful experience for
8th grade students. Other students look
forward to this experience at MMS in their final year of Middle School.

An Assembly Program for the
Middle School started in 2001.
It was expanded in 2002 and took on a more Patriotic theme. The School Band and Choir presented special musical selections for this part of the Day. President Abraham Lincoln spoke about Julia Ward Howe and how she wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" while she was visiting Washington D. C. during the Civil War.
